Garner became an ambassador of Save the Children U.S.A. in 2009. This position focuses on the promotion of nutrition and literacy in the United States in addition to early schooling. Garner has served on the board since the year 2014. Garner promotes early childhood education. In her role as an ambassador for the organization, Garner regularly meets with families who are part of the organization's Early Steps to School Success program. The program guides families on how to help young children develop.
