Laura Linney has been hailed as one of America's most popular actors. She is known for her strong character but equally at risk. Born to a renowned playwright's father, and was raised by a single mom who worked as a nurse, she became interested in theatre while having summers spent with her father, eventually studying acting, initially as a student at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. She began her Broadway career soon after completing her degree after which she made her TV debut in the next year. She has appeared on numerous stages, films and television shows since that time. She's been nominated for three Academy Awards, five Tony Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and received several awards during her professional career. Her nominations include five Tony Awards as well as three Oscar Award nominations. But, in spite of her awards and accolades, the stage is where she's at and she'll continue to play on stage and screen.
